Another Sigma let down! After the Sigma 150mm macro disappointment I decided to give Sigma another try. This time I bought the massively large 150-500mm, specifically purchased with hummingbirds in mind. The build quality, while not overly impressive, seemed adequate. Rotating the tripod collar makes it have a nice carry handle on top.
While this lens did not have the erratic bouncing of focus like the Sigma 150 macro it was super slow to focus. The Hyper Sonic Motor made a high pitch droning as it held focus. I found I was missing most humming bird shots because it would not focus fast enough.
The pictures were super soft, quite frankly all the images from this lens sucked! They were all just noticeably of lower quality. The colors seemed off as well.
I traded this into a local camera store after one summer. This was the last nail in the coffin for Sigma lenses.
