Review: Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G

Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G Review by Alan Trammel.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Known as the “nifty fifty” this is the Swiss army knife of lenses.  It does it all, and does it well!  If I could have only one lens this would be it.  Pretty close to the focal length that the human eye sees, this lens is very easy to use and is the BEST VALUE of all lenses.

This lens is super sharp with superb bokeh.  I love the way it can isolate subjects from the background when using a shallow depth of field.  It is perfect for portraits, landscapes and a must have for wedding photography.  You could essentially shoot an entire wedding with this lens.

It is an FX lens so when used on a DX camera it gives you an effective focal length of 75mm, ideal for portraits.  It is so lightweight, you can carry it around all day every day for a week and won’t need a trip to the chiropractor.

Summed up……………..extremely good optical quality for a very low cost.  Perfect first lens, a must buy!
